More Hussein Morsy, Tanja Otto “Ruby on Rails 2: Das Entwickler-Handbuch" Ein Handbuch vom Anfang bis zum Ende: mit Ruby on Rails 2: Das Entwickler-Handbuch liefern die beiden Rails-Experten Hussein Morsy und Tanja Otto ein praxisbezogenes Rundumwerk zum Mit- und Einarbeiten, Nachschlagen und Lernen. Morsy und Otto arbeiten sich an alltagstauglichen Praxisbeispielen an Rails heran und liefern darüber hinaus auch die Rahmenbedingungen für den Einstieg: zuerst die Grundlagen aus einer Einführung, der Installation des Frameworks (egal ob Windows, Linux oder Mac), erste Schritte und einen Einstieg in Ruby. Dann steckt man auch schon mit beiden Armen "knietief" drin: Praxis in Form einer einfachen Bookmarkverwaltung und der Einstieg in das Test-Driven Development (TDD). Beide Autoren blicken nicht stur gerade aus, sondern haben ihre Augen auch Rechts und Links der Schienen und liefern Werkzeuge, Erfahrungen und Techniken aus ihrem eigenen Rails-Schaffen. Den Löwenanteil des Buchs füllt dann das Rails-Framework; eine erstes Projekt, Templatesystem mit ActionView, ActionController, ActiveRecord für den Datenbankzugriff, ActionMailer für Mails und Hilfe mit ActionSupport. Darüber hinaus ein Einblick in Ajax on Rails und RESTful Rails und Webservices. Rund, praktisch und dennoch anspruchsvolle Grundlagen inklusive. Nach der praktischen Feuertaufe noch der konkrete Rails-Einsatz: Erweiterungen per PlugIns, Performancesteigerung, Sicherheitsfragen und die Veröffentlichung einer Applikation auf einem Server. Fertig.
